Student Health and Wellbeing

At City we care about our students and their wellbeing. We have a range of resources to enhance our students’ experience, including a free, extensive library of Wellbeing Self-Help guides, CityWellbeing app and our Health and our Wellbeing team.

The Self-Help guides cover a range of topics, including anxiety, depression, sleep and many more. They are available for students to download as a PDF and listen to in audio format.

Our CityWellbeing app is available for download for both iOS and Android devices. You can fill in a wellbeing questionnaire to see your wellbeing score and use the explore feature to boost your wellbeing by implementing changes to your lifestyle.

Throughout your time here, the Student Health and Wellbeing is here to help, whether you would like counselling, check-in appointments, mental health support or further support from the student disability and neurodiversity service. Our specialist teams will always be on hand.

CityBuddies

Starting university can be a daunting experience. That’s where CityBuddies can help.

The CityBuddies team will match you with a current second or third year student on your course to help you feel at home in your first few months of university. Your CityBuddy will give you tips to get to grips with your course, guide you around campus and share their experience.

You can find CityBuddies in the Pavilion by main reception during Welcome Week. For more information including FAQs and how to apply, go to the CityBuddies site.

You Report. We Support

To support you throughout your time at City, the University created ‘You report. We support’, a tool which makes it easier to confidentially report issues so City can support you.

The tool is part of the #NeverOk campaign, which represents the commitment to creating a University community which is as diverse, vibrant and accessible as possible, where work continually ensures that all students and staff feel welcome, safe and empowered to bring their entire selves to their studies and work.

Issues that it can be used to report can include bully and harassment, substance misuse, various forms of abuse and more.

In an emergency, please call UK emergency services on 999 and our Campus Security on 3333.

You can find more information about the tool on the Student Hub.

City Cares

City is committed to an environment that is free from discrimination and intimidation. If you feel you are being bullied or harassed, our Harassment Advisers are here to help.

Harassment Advisers are a group of staff volunteers trained to provide advice and support to students and staff who feel they are being subjected to harassment or bullying or have themselves been accused of harassment or bullying. Their role is to listen and help explore the available options to resolve the issues, no matter how sensitive. You can email the Harassment Advisers.

Find out more about how the Harassment Advisers can help on the Student Hub.

Academic skills

Do you want to become a more effective learner and enhance your academic skills? The Academic Skills team can help.

From webinars to the Academic Skills moodle course, the team can develop your skills across a range of topics, including critical thinking and referencing, as well as helping you make the most of your learning experience.

You can sign up for one-to-one tutorials, where the topics are decided by you. For example, you can bring along a draft essay for the tutor to look at. All sessions with the team are completely confidential.

Find out more about the support the team is offering on the Student Hub.

It will be available to attend in person and online.

This session is highly recommended for any students on a sponsored Student Visa. It will also cover the Graduate Immigration Scheme. There will be opportunities to ask questions.
